Clinical Case Consultation & Study Group

This is 90 minute weekly professional meeting, offered to clinicians interested in deepening their practice, their understanding of clinical material, and issues related to managing a clinical practice.  It provides a place and process for case consultation and study related to clinical issues.  Each member has the opportunity to present clinical material on a rotating basis, with time for one or two cases per meeting.  We examine interesting or confusing clinical issues; and look at current articles, books, research, and new ideas relevant to our work or interest.

I have always valued the opportunity to share my own clinical experiences with others professionally.  I know first-hand the value of group experience, having participated in several study, clinical, and experiential groups and in the same peer consultation group for 28 years.  Some of my greatest learning continues to occur in these settings.

If you are interested in developing an intimate, professional, on-going community in which to know your own practice better, stay in touch with current clinical issues and safely reflect on clinical experiences, please contact me at (847) 390-9145 or margaretmooremsw@aol.com.

Understanding Shame:  Courage, Authenticity and the Practice of Shame Resilience  (Based on the research of Brené Brown, PhD)

Often avoided or dismissed, shame holds tremendous potential to shape and affect every aspect of our lives. Shame can dramatically interfere with our clients’ full use of therapy or our own ability to be fully present. Even though mental health practitioners agree that shame is a significant underlying issue for clients, and there is strong evidence of the relationship between shame and many clinical issues, i.e., addiction, depression, anxiety, violence, there is little formal training about shame and its impact. Many professionals do not even use the word, let alone discuss shame openly with clients.

This workshop focuses on the importance of shame as it interferes in living fully and authentically. Examining the research of Brené Brown and clinical material, we will learn how to talk about shame, what it takes to become resilient in the presence of this universal and crippling feeling, and how to help others create their best lives.

This 12-session course, meeting weekly, offers both didactic and experiential learning.  It includes Brown’s official “Connections” curriculum, as well as opportunity for considerations of our own clinical situations.  It is usually offered once annually.  If you are interested, please contact me at (847) 390-9145 or margaretmooremsw@aol.com.
